A perfect slow-evening activity with our community coming together for a fun sketching session at Bar OMI! This summer, Bar OMI set up a unique space for a variety of art, performances and social gatherings. We were excited to collaborate as 'Bartenders' and host a sketching party on how we experience and perceive the city. Titled "How did you get here?", participants sketched their route to OMI and made visual snapshots of what they observed and what they felt along the way. Today, many of us rely on google maps to get to places that are out of our usual routes. While focused on following our blue dot, we often miss the little details along the way. Our event invited everyone to pause, reflect, notice and memorise our city experience once again.
It was wonderful to capture a variety of sketching styles and perspectives, from David Lynch style route maps, to scenes and comics! Huddled around a giant map of Rotterdam with a collage of everyone's sketches, we shared stories of our routes - noticing people along the way, having non-verbal interactions with strangers, that unsuspecting piece of art or graffiti, feeling the breeze as you pass through the Maastunnel and of course the dominance of cars (and the honking!) in our exciting city! A fun highlight was the reveal of our signature drink- a basil spritz with vodka and a non-alcoholic version too (YUM!).
