We are a Rotterdam-based network and platform for womxn - women and everyone who identifies as such - working on the city. We believe in bringing them together to help achieve their goals and celebrate their work.
Founded in London, there are now Urbanistas chapters in cities across the world, stretching from New York to Sydney. The chapter Urbanistas Rotterdam started in 2018 and has been growing ever since!
The Urbanistas network emphasises collaboration and action. Despite there being an abundance of amazing women doing great things in our cities, we believe that women’s experiences and voices in cities are still under-represented – as leaders, as innovators and as role models. We want to change that by growing women’s leadership and capacity to start their own projects, and empower them to realise their ideas and make cities better for everyone.
We do this primarily by organising events: socials (an opportunity to meet and share ideas, make friends and get involved in things), expos (a chance to ‘exhibit’ your idea of project and invite participation, help and ideas from your fellow Urbanistas), excursions (celebrating the work of women who make our city), workshops, cinema trips…you name it! We’re always open to new ideas from the community.
You don’t have to be working in the built environment to be an Urbanista – you just need to love cities! In fact, Urbanistas come from a diverse range of backgrounds, professional levels and disciplines. We include place makers, geographers, social entrepreneurs, researchers, architects, policy makers, artists, urbanists, community builders, economists, landscape architects, film makers and writers.
