In late April, Urbanistas, in collaboration with OMI, hosted EXPO #19, ‘Women’s Vision for Green Urban Spaces’. This event highlighted the critical need to incorporate female perspectives in the planning and development of public spaces, a viewpoint often overlooked or neglected. Rotterdam served as a focal point for these discussions.

Rotterdam’s push to become a National Park City is part of an international initiative to reimagine urban landscapes, aiming to create cities where nature thrives, benefiting both people and the planet. To achieve this, Groen010 launched a multi-year campaign in 2023 to declare Rotterdam a National Park City.

But what does achieving National Park City status mean for Rotterdam? More importantly, how does the integration of women’s perspectives enhance this vision?

Building on the insights from EXPO #19, Urbanistas in collaboration with Studio Inscape, will host a women-only workshop. This session will explore the needs and roles of various actors, especially women and animals, in designing green public spaces in Rotterdam. Through interactive activities and discussions, we will explore creating inclusive, sustainable environments considering age, ethnicity, and lifestyle.

Participants can expect hands-on exercises, lively discussions, and a guided tour of the four interventions of this year’s Architecture Month. Drinks and snacks will be provided, offering a relaxed environment to network and share ideas.

Join us to continue this important conversation and contribute to shaping a greener, more inclusive Rotterdam.
